For Therapist Referrals

Let’s Collaborate!

Referring a client out for trauma work can be an enormous benefit to complement the work you are doing. As a specialist in short-term, trauma-focused therapy, I love working with clients that are referred other therapists. I often have the fastest results with clients that have a strong connection to their long-term therapist because the foundation work of coping, emotion regulation, self-awareness, and trust in the process has already been created with you.

My goal is always to see clients for as few sessions as necessary so that they can return to you and continue towards the goals you have with them. Only now, the burden of traumatic stress is reduced and the client will have a deeper capacity for the work they’re doing with you.

Benefits for referring

Whether you work with individuals or couples, I collaborate with primary therapists to help clients overcome stuck points related to trauma.

  • Faster results. I want to reduce symptoms of trauma and get them back to working with you on their identified goals for therapy as quickly as possible.

  • Maintain positive working relationship. Trauma is sometimes revealed long after someone is seeing their therapist regularly because clients avoid dealing with trauma in order to have a positive experience with therapy. Referral to a trauma specialist acknowledges the impact of trauma without it being the focus of your work with the client.

  • Stay in your niche or specialty. As therapists we can spend thousands of dollars and countless hours getting trained in specific interventions, theories, or client populations. Referring clients for trauma-focused therapy allows you to keep doing what you do best while helping clients get relief from trauma.

  • Create an amazing referral network. I am always looking for great therapists to refer clients to. Sometimes I we agree that I’m not their best fit, or they want a relationship with a long-term therapist before they begin trauma therapy. Sometimes clients come to me first to deal with trauma and I need referrals for ongoing therapy after they complete trauma-focused work with me. I am always looking to create connections with other great therapists with different areas of focus than trauma, and I’d prefer to refer people to providers I know.
